Firmly seated within our primary inspiration for Autumn Winter 09 of Ancient Greece, the Stallion Print used in the collection was conceived from the famous Greek myth of the Trojan Horse.

Using stone as our ground colour with mosaic style squares in high-contrast black and jewel highlight colours of emerald, gold and ruby we re-worked classical representations seen in sculpture and painting of this infamous horse. The overall effect is a modern pixilated and distorted look. I love that on first glance you do not see the horses, especially within the folds of the fabric, you just notice shape and colour within the print.

This season we used this print in a range of styles including a trapeze dress, maxi dress, jumpsuit and trapeze tunic. As the print uses classical sources but with a contemporary look it is incredibly versatile and can be styled to suit the occasion. The tunic could be paired with high waisted skirts or trousers for classic chic, while a leather jacket can be worn over the dresses for the Rock Goddess look. Colour can also be played with as the print can be worn with monochrome greys and blacks or with bright, reds, greens and yellows to highlight the accent colours.

The Stallion print is fun and fresh and The Culture Queen herself, Lauren Laverne, is a fan and was seen wearing the trapeze dress on The Culture Show late last year.
